The Timing Functions
The Timing Functionality is the main feature of
TimeWatcher. It makes it possible, to give access to a computer, for a certain time.
To provide this functionality the TimeWatcher runs in
two modes called lock mode and timing mode. In the lock mode TimeWatcher locks the
computer so nobody can use it without admission. In the timing mode the computer can be
used as usual, but TimeWatcher counts the time. If the given time is up, TimeWatcher
switches to lock mode.
There are four different ways, how the computer can be
unlocked:
The Manual Time Control This is
easiest way. A supervisor enters the amount of time, during which the computer is
unlocked. After passing a security dialog, the countdown begins. Using the Manual Time
Control requires the supervisor to walk to the computer, every time a user wants to have
access, because of the security check, which has to be passed.
The Direct Access Codes This was
invented, to avoid that the supervisor has to walk to the computers all the time. If no
network is present, this is the easiest way. TimeWatcher can print out so called code
pages, which contain 60 generated codes for a certain usage time. If a user wants to have
access to a computer, the supervisor just gives him a Direct Access Code. The user enters
this code at the TimeWatcher main dialog, and gains access to the computer.
The TimeWatcher Network This is the
ideal solution for businesses. The supervisor can lock and unlock the computers, which are
connected to the TimeWatcher network without leaving his seat.
The Time Distributor This is an very
educational tool, specially invented for parents. This makes it possible to give kids a
certain usage time per day or week. No more discussions, let TimeWatcher do the job.
